Our eldest DS was taken to the Dandenong hospital yesterday after having a serious accident with a chainsaw.  He was helping family members  cut firewood when a branch fell and pushed the saw into the lower part of his leg in two places.  The nerves, ligaments & tendons have been cut and he is being operated on this afternoon.  DIL said she could see the bone but couldn't tell if it had been damaged.  He will be out of action for several months and he was due to start a new job tomorrow so that won't be happening now.
The  man who said it can't be done should not interupt the woman doing it.

Oh that’s not good at all . All the best for your DS and his recovery. Chainsaws are really dangerous and scary for all involved.

Oh Margaret, how worried you must be. I do hope the operation helped sort a few things out for your son. Absolutely devastating.

What terrible news Margaret, I feel your pain. They do wonderful things in surgery these days so I trust that they will fix your boy up completely. A long road ahead though, all the best to you all.

That is absolutely awful news, Margaret.  Chainsaws are so dangerous and scary.  I hope all goes well for your DS and my very best wishes for a successful recovery.

Thank you everyone for your good wishes for our DS.  His operation was postponed until today and he didn't go into theatre until 4.00pm this afternoon.  We won't know any details until he is back in the ward and we don't expect that to be until about 8.00pm tonight.

Mab, I know exactly how you feel. Ral cut his knee badly ( I could see the bone) with the chain saw, TWICE. first time I drove him to Kyneton hospital. ( early evening) I didn’t know it was a day hospital, with a few beds and no Dr on duty at night. Nurse in charge said 2 choices. Ambulance to Melbourne or she could try stitching it up. She cleaned it up as well as she could and stitched it up. That was his choice. She did an excellent job, but couldn’t give him any thing for the infection. Weeks later , after many Dr visits for the infection he was ok. Several years later he did it again.
Mab, hang in there . The Dr’s are amazing .
I’ve got a zoom meeting today with the Dietitian. Topic, diet and Arthritis.

DS came home from hospital late yesterday so we went out to see him today.  His operation took 4 hours and he has cut through two muscles, numerous nerves and tendons as well as cutting the bone in two places.  He is not allowed to walk or use his leg for two week and will then spend 3 months in a moon boot.  After all that he will need several months of rehabilitation.  Being a typical male he is already fed up about be unable to move. We are just pleased that he still has his leg.

Good to hear he is home Margaret, poor man is not going to like what lies ahead for himself. Unfortunately rehab takes an awful long time sometimes.
